| 322407 | 2005-02-07 07:30:00 | I have re formatted my old pentium 2 from DOS and now i am having trouble installing windows onto it. The CD rom drive is not working so i think i need the drivers for it but they are not working, when i put them in it says: Non-System disk or disk error Replace and press any key when ready. If someone could walk me through re installing that would be great. |

YOu need a boot disk (best to be Win98 since it has built in drivers for most CDROM drives). You can download a boot disk at: www.bootdisk.com |

Most likely your Win 95 is either version B or C in which case use fdisk to make an active primary partition and say yes to large drive support. This will give you FAT32 file system, then format the C drive. If it is version A, then that only supports FAT16 If the drive is big enough it is best to make a folder win95 and copy all the files from the CD folder of the same name to it. Then boot from the floppy, change from A:> prompt to C:\win95 and type setup. This will start to install win95 from the hard drive instead of the CD, which is faster and more convenient subsequently, as you dont need to keep inserting the CD when asked. Edit: to make a win 95 folder from the A:> prompt type 'md c:\win95' without the exclamation marks. |

| 322412 | 2005-02-07 21:55:00 | www.mirrors.org this'll bring you a win98 boot disk.......just have a floppy ready and when you've downloaded the file double clik it and it'll write to the floppy use that floppy to start the pc.....you'll get a menu take the 'start with cdrom support' option.....then you'll be at the A: prompt stuff in your cd and change to that drive by typing in E: then hit enter (or whatever letter your cd drive is) then type in setup and hit enter you should now be on yoru way to setting up 95 :-) |
