322027 2005-02-06 08:47:00 The other day I re-installed the free version of Sygate. All has been going well except for one thing. I keep getting a pop up message that looks like this. "NT Kernal & System. file name ntoskrnl.exe" What can I do to stop it please. I cannot see that sentence in Sygate. PJ Poppa John (284)
322028 2005-02-06 08:53:00 Hi Poppa John

Are you getting this message during bootup or at other times?

At other times, frequently. PJ

322030 2005-02-06 08:59:00 Have you scanned your machine for viruses with a updated AV program? Just need to rule out something dodgy happening.

If the machine comes up squeaky clean, have a look at this (smb.sygate.com) and the "Enable driver-level protection" feature.

Quoted from here (smb.sygate.com):
ntoskrnl.exe - NT Kernel & System is a standard Windows service that initializes the kernel and drivers needed during a session.

I am not sure why the ntoskrnl needs to access the internet tho? If you disable the "drive-level protection" this will stop the warnings you are getting, or a safer option is just to give that app permission to access the net. Again, no idea why it wants to?

322034 2005-02-07 04:19:00 AVG,AdAware, Spybot, Windows updates are all up to date & this computer is clean. In Spygate there are 6-7 Windows items which are only 'ticked' for 'ask' I don't know what they refer to so I left them as is. Should I tick for 'allow' perhaps?? PJ Poppa John (284)
322035 2005-02-07 04:28:00 As no one has suggested any good reason why it needs to access the internet, I probably would block it and then if something falls over unblock it again .

Out of interest, what is the URL or IP that it is trying to access on the internet? Does Sygate give this information in the firewall alert?

Hi Jen . Just getting back to the problem . . It does appear that it is this computer trying to go 'Out' . Don't know URL or IP, where do I find those? Not in the little windw popup that I get . PJ
