322274 2005-06-07 03:40:00 I hate to admit it, but I got a little lost . So the key that is on the sticker being different then what the magic jellybean key finder shows means what?

The whole thing is, I have a mutt . I built the computer, used my old windows 98 se . I then bought xp professional upgrade . The computer has been running sluggish, and even rebooting itself for no reason . No upgrades, or hardware changes . Anyway, I would rather just wipe the drive and restart, but for some reason I can't find the xp book that has the disk and the key code . If I could retrieve my key code, I was told that microshaft could send me another copy of xp .

Thats why I went to my laptop and downloaded this program . I typed in the keycode on the bottem of the laptop when I restored it, minus all the junk that dell put on it . I know the key code I entered works, but what magic jellybean shows is totally different . So if I contact ms and ask for a new cd and they want the key, it would be crazy to just ramble one that jellybean shows me .

322275 2005-06-07 04:00:00 Now I am lost .

Are you talking about the keycode on the Dell OEM installed laptop being different between Jellybean and the sticker on the laptop?

That is what I assumed, and forms the basis of the explanation I gave .
My HP laptop also gives different numbers . The OEM factory key remains and is reported, but the sticker key works . If you reformatted and installed from another source, (not the Dell recovery CD) then the OEM factory key would not be there .

The recovery CD seems to seed the Factory OEM number . Thats not unexpected as it means all recovery CDs are created equal and not unique, as are all the preloaded HDD for that model .

On the "mutt" you should only get the real key, thats what happens here on a home-assembled PC . The Jellybean key is the same as the CD and sticker key for me on the desktop . There is no factory seed CD key involved on the "mutt" one assumes, as there is no recovery CD, only a real XP one .

In other words, there is no similarity to the Laptop installation and the "mutt" installation .

322276 2005-06-07 04:09:00 Google for "RCBF6" and you'll see that it wasnt the real install key.... Chilling_Silence (9)
322277 2005-06-07 05:14:00 you can change your windows xp key, i think magic jellybean does it...... Prescott (11)
322278 2005-06-07 06:03:00 It is also a good idea to write with a suitable marker pen the product key number on the actual Windows install CD as well. :)

Or across the middle of your monitor

322280 2005-06-07 06:32:00 RCB eh? That's the same three starting letters as the key code that I've come to memorise for um, corporate volume licensing, which I frequently undertake given my circumstances... Growly (6)

322282 2005-06-07 06:48:00 It is funny they stick the product key on the side of the case.
I've in the past rolled out PCs to a tertiary student lab and of course there are 125 serials all on the cases.
But then we go and use a volume license serial anyway from a ghost image.

Eventually, the students will remove the stickers with time. You aren't really supposed to remove them I gather...

That would be the work of those trusty search engine bots/spiders bringing us visitor's from every corner of the www :p

If you search with google for Windows XP serial number, we are hit number 14. Us discussing Jellybeans is probably not what they were after
