322364 2005-02-07 05:28:00 Hi, I have just purchased a Dick Smith Broadband Router XH1151 Wan/Lan with a built in USB printer sharing port.
I have followed the instructions exactly. The router works fine, but! the printer just refuses to print. I installed on another computer (both have XP Pro) and still NOGO. :yuck:
Anyone had experience with the router.
Thanks... Splodg.

322366 2005-02-07 06:22:00 Not all printers will network.
In particular some Lexmark models are a no-go.

Perhaps you could advise what the printer type is?

322367 2005-02-07 06:25:00 I've used that router before. They're are without a doubt one of the worst routers money can buy. I tried two of them before giving up and taking it back for a refund. I suggest you do the same and get a Linksys WRT54G or GS instead. E|im (87)
322368 2005-02-07 06:26:00 Hi splodg - I recently set up the same model router for someone (my first time) and got hopelessly lost in the options. In the back of the accompanying manual or somewhere should be a Dick Smith help desk phone number. I used this free service and a very competent support guy walked me through the process, after which we were up and running.

Might save you a lot of hassle :)

Hi Splodg
No experience with that particular router - I have a DSE XH7916 which works just fine. As a newbee - just 2-3 yrs with PressF1, I am beginning to suspect that incompatibility problems are bigger than one might suppose. You can have no problems for ages and then kazzooom !!

322371 2005-02-07 08:12:00 I know how you feel PJ,I also have a XH7601 print server, mine works fine but getting it there was a battle and some,I followed the instructions to the letter and in the end the hardest part was getting it setup to show up as a printer in XP.

The printer is a Brother HL-1430 that is normaly connected to my main machine via usb and networked to 2 others OK. I want to be able to have main machine off sometimes, and still print from the other 2 others. I though the DSE router was the answer, but seems a load of crap.
I had a friend who bought a DSE USB print server and was unable to get it to work. He got a parralel version and all was well????

Do you see your printer in there?

One thing I did when buying a print server was to ensure that my printer was supported by it first, as I know that it's not a given with all print servers and all printers.
