322209 2005-02-07 00:51:00 Hi
I have a Geforce4 MX420 and it has worked fine for years and i always had my resolution at 1024 x 786 and at 32bit color. But recently i did windows update and it updated the latest drivers. And now i can't get the resolution higher than 800 x 600 otherwise my PC crashes.
Then when i restart my computer i get a message from Windows saying a serious error happened and to send the message this is what Microsoft said

" Problem Description

An unknown error occurred in NVIDIA Graphics Driver, created by NVIDIA® Corporation.

Problem Resolution

Microsoft is currently not aware of a specific solution for the problem that you reported. Below is a list of recommendations to take which may help prevent the problem from reoccurring."

I don;t understand because if i load windows in safe mode the resolution is at 1024x768 and the color is 32bit. But when loaded in normal mode and resolution changed a blue screen comes up with a lot of text but dissapears too quickly to read.

Could someone help me please.
Thank you for your time.
Mark :( :badpc:

322210 2005-02-07 01:00:00 Why not install the latest and greatest drivers from Nvidia (www.nvidia.com) ?

If you want read the blue screens of death Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> Startup and Recovery settings button -> uncheck automatically restart.

322211 2005-02-07 01:05:00 Never -ever- use video drivers from Windows update.

They are generic and do not often work well with specific hardware.

If you update with the correct drivers from the card makers website all should be fine.
I safe mode, the Windows driver is not used and the basic default one is, hence it works better at the moment.

322213 2005-02-08 19:49:00 One thing I have found that has improved my graphics 500%.
In settings /advanced/GE Force/FX 5200/performance & quality settings I have changed Application Profiles from "Global" to Doom 3.
It's a great improvement.
