322660 2005-02-08 06:09:00 Some more links in here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz). They say it's a challenge to MS as well as Intel. Maybe they don't rate AMD that big a threat. The new Play Station will be coming out with this chip. Murray P (44)

Would they, could they be OC'ed?? maybe that cell software will prevent it, it seems to be pretty heavy on code execution, DRM and the like. They also seem to be aiming at enterprise (larger commercial) and imbedded appliance application rather than desktop for now.

322663 2005-02-08 06:56:00 sounds good but "It runs at 4 GHz - twice the speed of the Pentium 4 processor " is surely a bit of hype................um.....last i heard 3.4x2=6.8 ?? ......it'll be interesting anyway for sure.........dunno if I like that drm crap tho.......bad news... drcspy (146)

It is probably already overclocked. I am sure the manufacturers will have tried to squeeze each amount of hz they can get out of it.

Ttrying to overclock it would be fun though... would do it if I could afford to throw it away if I damage it

The fastest Intel at the moment is 3.8Ghz or the Pentium 4 XE 3.73GHz. I think that's out?

Maybe it is possible that the Cell can run faster, it can execute 10 different threads at once whereas the P4s can do two instructions at once with hyperthreading.
