322649 2005-02-08 02:02:00 Hey,

I have a server box setup in my house.

It has the following specs

Semperon 2500+ CPU
MSI Motherboard
256mb ram (64m shared for video)
1 x 160GB Hard Drive
1 x 80GB Hard Drive
Uses onboard video

It is currently running Fedora Core 2 (GUI is installed as well)

Runs Samba so that 2-4 machines can access Samba Shares and VSFTPD for FTP file transfer.

Its other main use is to stream video across my lan (in my house and to my mate 800m away via our Wireless Link)

Anyways Ram is pretty cheap right now, so is it going to be worth me buying an extra stick of 512mb? or maybe just 256?. I may be doing some Xvid encoding on it soon as well.

Cheers,

Ash

It may decrease compile times marginally, but I wouldnt count on it. It'll still work fine, however you may want to renice the mencoder process if you experience lag when connecting.
You shouldnt though.

Tried VideoLAN Client?

Sweet.

Yes, but we use Xbox Media Center as the client. He simply connects to the samba share via the wireless link through his modded xbox and plays it straight off.
