322589 2005-02-07 23:14:00 I have Adaware and Spybot installed on my computer and when i was using IE i was having to remove spyware all the time. Now that i'm using Mozilla Firefox i get no spyware at all when i run the programs. Is spyware a IE only problem or do i need another program to remove it when using Firefox.
Cheers.

322591 2005-02-07 23:46:00 Cool. I thought so but thought i'd check with this forum. I've been telling anyone who will listen to get rid of IE and use something like Firefox.
Cheers, lazydog

322592 2005-02-07 23:50:00 You can still get the likes of GAIN through installing DivX Free and other related products.

So it'd be fairer to say Spyware is a Windows-Only problem, usually acquired through Internet Explorer un-intentionally.
Stop using IE and you stop the greatest acquisition of the unwanted products

Some cookies and javascripts also "spy" on you. Cookies set by companies like "Doubleclick" enable them to follow you around their affiliate sites. Javascripts from companies like "NielsenRatings" run in your browser session and do something similar.

You can also use Firefox to download programs that contain spyware and adware like eXeem and KaZaa.

322594 2005-02-08 09:51:00 the 2 main ways of being infected is by a malicous site exploiting your browser or a user downloading and installing a product that contains the spyware.

useing an alternative browser diffently helps but they to can be infected.

however the simpliest and most effective way of infecting a pc is to fool the user.
