323502 2005-02-10 04:39:00 Using XPpro.
Having a problem with conflicts with viewers.
The viewers are Photoshop elements2, ACDC, Nero, Arcsoft. The only one I purchased was ACDC, the others came either as part of another, such as Nero, the scanner brought Arcsoft and Photoshop was given to me by a friend who got it with his scanner and already had bought it.
Each one of these has it's purpose and I want to keep them, but would like to know how to deactivate all but ACDC and bring another up if required.
At the moment Photoshop has taken over as the default and when transferring photo's from the camera, it always comes up.

Second problem, how do I remove a lot of programmes from the start menu?

Thanks in advance..Ron..

Are these leftover shortcuts from uninstalled programs? If so, just left-click on the item to remove, then click Delete. If the programs are still installed and you want to get rid of them, uninstall through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

323504 2005-02-10 05:05:00 Hi Ron

Have a look at this FAQ on Changing File Associations (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz ). You just need to reassociate the graphic formats eg jpg, bmp, gif etc to your preferred application.

Irfanview As Chill said above. This can set itself up as default viewer. Its free, safe stable , fast and has a manure load of features. Its simply the best image viwer there is. ACDC is pure bloatware.

323507 2005-02-10 09:58:00 Yep, I have Irfanview set up as my default image viewer for all but PSD and CRW (Canon RAW) files which are opened by Photoshop Elements by default (the best light weight photo editor out). I also have various other viewers/editors for DWG, DXF, DWF, etc.

The beauty of Ifranview is that I can have several directories of photo's opened as largish thumbnails to review before opeing in PE for editing without bringing everything to a grinding halt.

323509 2005-02-11 01:25:00 Thanks everyone for the replies. First Irfanview has been and gone and was Ok, but Photoshop is better, particularly when it arrives as a gift.
Am working on the solutions, but no luck at the moment, I don't want to delete the programmes, only to keep them out of sight, so that they only pop up when I want them to.
Cheers Ron..

323510 2005-02-11 02:53:00 If you mean "ACDSee" - in my old version it's under Tools menu > Options > Misc > Set File Associations button...

Your other programs may be stealing the associations when they are opened so look for something similar in their options...
