2005-02-09 17:47:00 | I have a bluetooth network but the range isn't quite big enough, i've tried getting USB extension cables for the transimitter but it will only let me put so many extensions in before the computer wont reconise it. Is there a way to strengthen the signal from the bluetooh transmitter or make it so windows will reconise it or is there an amplifier that i can put halfway? | Pru (7200) | |

2005-02-09 19:51:00 | from what i've seen bluetooth has much bigger range my bluetooth things are 200m and the wifi stuff i saw was alot more expensive and shorter range :stare: | Pru (7200) | |

2005-02-09 20:11:00 | Bluetooth design range is only 10 metres Class 1 device) or 20 metres (Class 2). It is designed for close proximity use, not for what you are doing. Wireless networking (802.11) will give much greater range. My Class 2 bluetooth here barely does more than 10m, and 802.11 Wireless about 40 metres. If you attach directional antennas you could get 200m on bluetooth, agreed. And several kilometres on 802.11

2005-07-05 21:59:00 | I own desktop PC's and each has a BELKIN 100mtr range bluetooth dongles. They work perfectly fine. Remember that when the manufacturer say the range is 10mtrs/ 100mtrs. You got to remember that they mean within line of site of each other without any obstructions. In a radio competition i have won myself a new BELKIN product called the PRE-N wireless networking router. Now i have not yet connected it as it was a router and a wireless PCMCI card for a laptop. When i spoke to the manufacturer BELKIN and explained to them my situation that i have two desktops they was kind enough to send me a extra free wireless networking desktop card as well. I was expecting to pay for it but it was completely FREE. Pre-N Wireless Networking (Pre-N) BELKINs new Pre-N products allows you to share your broadband Internet connection farther and faster than ever. It also deliver up to 800%* the wireless coverage and 600%* the wireless speed of 802.11g networking deviceswith exceptional data transfer results. Featuring a revolutionary smart antenna technology, BELKIN Pre-N provides a breakthrough solution for larger homes or offices that have a wide area to cover and want to run multimedia and high-bandwidth applications. IT IS: - 800% greater coverage than standard 802.11g - 600% greater speeds than standard 802.11g - Improved performance of standard 802.11g and 802.11b networking devices - Improved resistance to wireless interference - Belkin Pre-N products sense potential interference and dynamically shift to the clearest wireless channel available. - Belkin Pre-N products do not drop to the lowest networking speed in a mixed-mode environment - Advanced Security - Wi-Fi® Protected Access (WPA) support provides enhanced encryption protecting your wireless network. I know it sounds like a marketing campaign. But it is not. Will post some info once I get the system running. SO WATCH THIS SPACE!!

Sounds like a load of marketing PR to me. Be keen to see what range you get, compared to standard Access Point. |

2005-07-06 01:44:00 | Am I correct that wireless keyboad and mouses uses WIFI technology or something else? Cos I can get only 1.5m max out of it away from the receiver

2005-07-06 02:08:00 | Many (most?) wireless keyboards and mice use RF, but it's not WiFi. It's much simpler because the required bandwidth is much lower. (It's about the level of technology of a garage door opener). What sort of range do you need, Pru? Bluetooth is designed as a short range protocol. This is to reduce interference. If you are usiing USB cables in an attempt to get more range, why not use Ethernet wires all the way?
