| 322938 | 2005-02-09 06:15:00 | I'm running an Athlon 2600XP on an MSI motherboard with 512 meg of RAM and an ATi 9600 256 meg video card. The operating system is XP pro. I have a copy of Final Fantasy 8 for the PC which I've installed. Sometimes when I use it it works. More often it hangs up on the introduction Eidos video. I've set it to 98 compatibility, I've switched to software rendering rather than direct 3d because the ATi card doesn't support the 8 bit pallet. I've copied isos of the discs and tried running them in a Daemon virtual drive in case it was a drive/cpu/disc speed incompatibility. I've even tried switching to low resolution video. I've watched the window task manager and noted it jump to 100% CPU usage when I start the game. How would a 6 year old game tax a relatively modern system? Any advice would be appreciated. |

I know it won't run if there's anything else working when I try to start it. Looking round it seems that the problem isn't confined to me. The game was a straight PS port without any effort made to intergrate it into the PC environment. They don't even allow you to customise keys and the only way out when you're playing is ctrl-alt-delete. They tried a lot harder with Final Fantasy 7. |
