322849 2005-02-08 23:13:00 This LIGHTFAX 5600 On Air External modem I’ve inherited has a Radio provision by the look of things. Well, it has a Aerial Connection and FM out and one of the sites I found by “Googleing” said it covered the Japanese FM radio frequency. Another said it was flashable to other specifications but nowhere can I find a description of just how it’s supposed to work and what other programmes and drivers are required.

Has anyone had any experience with these beasts? By the way it isn’t new, date of manufacture, 1998.

Cheers

Bob

If it's the right modem, the chipset is by Topic Semiconducter Corp. Never heard of them, which means very little.

322851 2005-02-09 01:42:00 Yes Murray I had seen a couple of those sites whilst “Googleing”.

Unfortunately, none of them mention radio capabilities or how they can be achieved.

For what it’s worth Windows recognises it as a Rockwell DPF PnP & The telepermit number is PTC-211-98-035.

These darn Modems sure take cross-breeding to extreme limits. :)

322852 2005-02-09 06:41:00 Is it USB?

I guess you've seen this pile (www.lightspeed.com.tw) they call a website. Could catch the lurg off it if viewed via windows.

322853 2005-02-09 17:44:00 No Murray, it's Serial connected to Comm 2.

Yep, had seen that site.

The Modem works fine but the FM Radio facility has me curious as I'd never heard of such a thing.

Cheers

Bob
