323009 2005-02-09 14:16:00 I've checked the bios and there is no caps lock setting, only num lock. So I tried to set the initial keyboard setting in the registry to 3, so both num lock and caps lock will come on at bootup. I make the value change, exit the registry and reboot. When I go back into the registry the value has reverted back to 1 like it was before I changed it. I can't figure out why the registry is not holding the value I set. Any suggestions? bloodthief (7187)

323012 2005-02-09 18:07:00 there are two hives in the registry that hold this setting one that applies to that session only (temporary) and I suspect that is the one you are changing. Do a search of the registry for the key or data you are using, change the values on both sorry i cant remember which hive stores this setting between sessions.
I have strick this before when setting custom registry settings and to overcome this user sessionmonly hive, I just search the entire registry for either the value or the key name.

Remember always backup the registry before changing any key values

323013 2005-02-10 10:07:00 The location in the registry if I recall correctly to do this is

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators

OR

\HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyboardIndicators

I have no idea what the number to have CAPS LOCK on is, I only changed this so I could get NUMLOCK to be on at startup, that number is 2. 0 means all off, so just mess around with numbers between 1-3 but make sure to have this backed up before messing around.

Sounds like you really want to change the values under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT...
