324086 2005-02-12 00:13:00 I have a D-Link DSL302g adsl modem/router (not sure which to call it - some people call it a modem and tell me its not a router, other people tell me its a router...)

Anyway, in the process of trying to change some settings to allow port-forwarding of certain ports I discovered that it won't let me save any settings, apart from the username/password/initial ADSL connection settings on the first config page. Every other page (well those that I've tried anyway) if I try to change a setting I get an "Invalid Command" error, and the setting doesn't change.

I took the modem back to Dick Smith because they advertise that they do straight swaps for networking equipment, and I figured that they could just swap it for a new one (don't want to sit around for 2-3 weeks waiting for the thing to be fixed, with no internet etc.). However as DSE no longer stock that particular modem, they can't do a straight swap, and I'll have to pay extra to get a different one (because they're more expensive than what I paid, on special, to get the 302g in October)... So I'm hoping I can somehow fix the problem without having to fork out extra for a new modem/router.

I have downloaded the 2 firmware files from the NZ/AU D-Link site and applied each of those, which didn't help. And I'm not sure what else to try now.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Midavalo.

324087 2005-02-12 00:17:00 Interesting... my brain just suddenly switched on and suggested I turn off my firewall and change the settings, and it worked :)

So now this thread is pointless ;)

Cheers,

324088 2005-02-12 05:49:00 Those are the same modems that Xtra are giving away with their broadband deals at the moment..... and from what i have seen of them, they are crap compared to the likes of Netgears DG632 ADSL Modem Router which retail for around $130.

Between the 4 or 5 clients we have that signed up and received a free adsl modem, all lock up, they end up having to pull the power on them every day or so, and have taken up to 10 minutes to negiotate a connect to Xtra.

Anyone else finding this with the dsl302 router/modems?
Any idea's why they do this? Upgraded the firmware on the 4 port version and made little difference.

324089 2005-02-12 06:08:00 I've not had any problems with mine. Mine didn't come from Xtra though - I bought it... perhaps that might have made a difference? ;)

Just for your info, they are definitely a router. while D-Link don't advertise them as such and you have to look pretty hard to find any refernece to router the afct they have NAT routing capabilities mean that they are not nerely a modem but also have a built in router. So you can call them a modem/router if you like

Which browser are you using to change settings, etc. Hopefully not Firefox.

324094 2005-02-12 08:11:00 I have xtra DSL 302G modem it has only locked up a few times but the biggest problem is the computer wont shut down any more. I have to push reset and after scandisk etc it turns off.
It was a pig to set up ,in fact its still running temp on usb connection
The buck stops at the top so I wish that Gatling chick at Xtra goes the same way as that chick who wrecked HP.

Using Firefox to configure a DSL302G doesn't work in some cases.

After submitting settings on some pages (eg, Network Setup > New Rule) a 501 Method Not Implemented error is returned, which shouldn't happen, and doesn't in IE. Has something to do with java i think.
