323905 2005-02-11 08:47:00 How can I get rid of this annoying routine. Have tried editing the registry, but it keeps coming back. Been on the Google, but there does not appear to be any fixes, except buying a program. willin (7268)
323906 2005-02-11 08:56:00 Welcome to PressF1 willin.

maybe I'm being a bit thick - but I have no idea what you are talking about - you need to give a few more clues:

What OS?
What software?
What are you doing when you get annoyed by this "annoying routine"?
etc....

Thanks.

323907 2005-02-11 09:05:00 Apparently there is some sort of adware that takes over Internet Explorer which changes the home page each time you log on a site called Coolpage. Adaware and Spybot do not clear it out.
There is discussion on the web. Google has 587,000 sites where it is mentioned.

323908 2005-02-11 09:37:00 Try spybot or adaware. That about:blank usually means something has hijacked your browser. Speedy Gonzales (78)
323909 2005-02-11 10:22:00 Or, if your homepage is set to 'blank page' you get a window with about:blank in the address bar. Altec_ (2950)
323910 2005-02-11 10:39:00 This hijack is extremely difficult to remove and the usual spyware programs do not remove some variants. The only other option is to do a manual removal which is difficult and complicated.
You could try this program which I have not used but looks useful, it has a 5 day trial period.

323911 2005-02-11 10:42:00 Yes it hijacks the default homepage.
Adaware and Spybot do not help, have already upgraded to latest version and definitions, but no luck

323913 2005-02-11 15:20:00 AboutBuster will most likley kill it.........it's designed for that problem drcspy (146)
323914 2005-02-11 20:09:00 "Yes it hijacks the default homepage. " "about:blank:"

Um...... not much of a hijack really

First,
Owing to lack of details provided, shall i assume you are running XP?

Second,
IF you had something really nasty, i would be more inclined to expect you to have your browser opening up on what is hoped to be your new favourite porn page that requires your credit card number "just to be sure of your age before we go any further" . There's not much cash likely to be conned from people by offering them an all new extra special new improved blank page.

Third,
OK, i've just fired up my old computer with '98 on it, just to check the routine. I don't know your O.S, so '98 is as good as any.
Open internet explorer.
Tools > Internet options > General tab (should open anyway) > Homepage.
What is displayed here?
Change it to "http://www.pressf1.co.nz" without the quote marks.
Press "Apply" then "OK"

Hopefully your browser will open the PF1 homepage by default now. If not, at what point does this change to something else? Details details details.... We need 'em. Even if we take the tinfoil of our heads, we can't work out whats happening without details WRITTEN here.

BTW, do you start with "about:blank" or "Coolpage" as mentioned in your second post? I am, as per usual, confused here! If it is "Coolpage" or some such, then you also have an easily identified problem.
