| 323849 | 2005-02-11 04:48:00 | I'm thinking about using my PC at home as a small webserver - probably run IIS with PHP enabled or something like that. What would I need to do to: Open my PC up enough to allow external connections to certain things (http, maybe ftp and similar). Close the rest of my PC up so that the rest of it is fairly secure. Running XP Pro SP2, Norton Internet Security as a firewall, with one of those D-Link ADSL modems (DSL-302g) that Telecom were giving away I think. Midavalo. |

| 323851 | 2005-02-11 05:27:00 | Yup, no-ip.com is great :) Basically you needa set up a Port Forward for things like http. Leave the rest of the firewall in the router up so it keeps it nice and secure. Otherwise, just carry on as-per normal :) Chill. |

Leave the rest of the firewall in the router up so it keeps it nice and secure.I don't think the thing is a router - just an ADSL modem. I don't think you can set up "port forward" anything... I've hit a bit of a snag - setting up IIS I get an error "0x3e7", and it tells me that if I continue IIS might not work properly, and if I cancel then setup will not continue... although this time (about the 5th time I've tried) it seems to be working (touch wood). We'll see how things go. M. |

I don't have one of those :) M.Static local IP was needed... set that up, but I still keep getting the "Invalid command"... Seems my modem was DSL302g type 2, so I found the instructions on that site for that modem, but I still get that error... :( M. |
