323547	2005-02-10 05:21:00	Hi, I finally got Gentoo up and running on my box! Thanks especially to Chill, Jen, ilikelinux and Graham (i think there is one i forgot.... thank you too) for all your help. Anyways its working okay, but I have a few queries. Firstly, I think I need to do an emerge sync before I emerge anything else. When I do that (su - to become root first) I get the following error illusive root # emerge --sync Notice: (-2, 'Name or service not known') >>> starting rsync with rsync: //rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage... >>> checking server timestamp ... rsync: getaddrinfo: rsync.gentoo.org 873: Name or service not known rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(88) >>> retry ... I think this is related to another issue, in regards to DNS. I can ping website addresses okay - eg pressf1.co.nz or nzherald.co.nz yet when I try to surf to any of those sites they aren't found. Yet I can access them if I type the IP of that website in as I am doing now... Any ideas? Ash	Ash M (46)

323549	2005-02-10 05:29:00	Thanks Chill, However my DNS issues are still there. In fact for some reason now I can no longer oing the box (or ping from it). This includes stuff on my local lan..... Any ideas? Ash	Ash M (46)
