324535 2005-02-13 00:00:00 As i said in a previous message I have just moved over from the UK and am now looking for a new pc system. I have no idea what prices should be but so far the best I have come across was at quay.co.nz for $1500 and that was an AMD 64 3500+ system without the monitor and software - www.quay.co.nz (not sure if im allowed to link, let me know if im not and i will remove it).

So basically I'm asking is that a good price or can anyone link me to better priced systems... it can be anything, not sure what i want at mo but likely to be the highest spec pc i can get plus an LCD from somewhere for under $2k

thanks

324536 2005-02-13 00:23:00 oh yeh, and preferably systems that have a bit of life for upgrade in them... prob looking at AMD 64 (maybe socket 939) kwyjibo (7195)
324537 2005-02-13 00:29:00 You could try here if youre in Auckland http://www.e-zone.co.nz/

You could most probably make up a system for less.

looked at that site and it doesn't seem cheaper after you add the GST and delivery... not sure if it's cheaper to build one either, after pricing all components it seems to work out cheaper to get it ready made.

I am in Auckland yes and that Quay site said that it would be $20 for delivery

324539 2005-02-13 00:40:00 Well true but most shops/places dont include GST on most of their sites.

Cant do much about it

Good luck!

324540 2005-02-13 00:51:00 The dvd writer is almost certainly a model that is being dumped by retailers around the country at elcheapo prices. Its a + format only writer( and 4x only)
and while its okay (I install them in place of cdrw/dvd r combo drives since they do the same job and can burn the odd dvd with it to as a bunus) they are not spectacular and certainly shouldn't be in a brand new system.
The video card is too lightweight.
It doesn't mention the motherboard model or brand which always makes me suspicious.
I get a bad feeling about this one

324541 2005-02-13 01:19:00 not too worried about the dvd writer as i have a dual layer +/- one in a box on a ship making it's way to NZ with all my other stuff... cant remember model of mobo now even though I was told, surely it can't be that bad, it has to be a socket 939, 8x AGP and i know it's got 6channel audio.. although im not too up on the newer stuff so cant be sure.

As I said it doesn't have to be the best system in the world, I'm not a huge gamer but would like a 64bit system and this seems to be the best i can find at the moment, I would be happy and grateful if people could suggest others for better value.

324542 2005-02-13 01:49:00 FYI - the motherboard on that package is a Soltek SL-K8TPRO-939

324543 2005-02-13 02:54:00 okay I thought the mobo might be some god awful chumya brand.
If you dont need the dvd writer, ditch it and use the extra freed up (approx 65 bucks) to upgrade the vid card to radeon 9600 xt which is a substantially better card and the mimimum you'd want in that system. i see they have that as an option

But before that what case and power supply does it come with ?
the highlander (245)
324544 2005-02-13 03:39:00 not so sure about the case, he just said standard... but he mentioned a 420w psu.. that alright?

starting to sound like a decent deal you think?
