324747 2005-02-14 08:12:00 TradeMe and some other websites namely stuff.co.nz were having problems as a routing link went down. As far as I know this caused traffic from almost all major ISP's (Xtra, Slingshot, Quicksilver, Orcon) to go down. Only Paradise/TelstraClear customers were able to access it.

This is not an ISP problem though.

I was under the impression it was fixed now as I can access it.

Can I add a funny to this story, all phones in this house were out of action, Telecom said they were working on the fault.
Using ADSL I was on the net to trademe most of the day, how is this possible? Ron..

324748 2005-02-14 09:06:00 ADSL works on a different frequency to voice. It doesn't rely on the same hardware as a voice connection.

Same way ADSL will work if Telecom cease providing phone service.

Many thanks to Ninja and Elim for that info, it's been puzzling me how it could work..

324754 2005-02-14 23:58:00 However, cutting through a cable effectively stops both ADSL and voice. ;) ADSL and voice use the same "wires". Graham L (2)
