2005-02-15 05:11:00 | I'm soliciting recommendations for good and cheap web hosting services. I plan to have a basic site and run some open source discussion board software, e.g. snitz forums. Will need MYSQL and php support etc. If anyone has any recommendations for either web hosting servces or discussion board software I'd love to hear them. I'd also be very interested to hear from anyone who has any guidelines on sizing requirements for board software. Cheers :help:

2005-02-15 05:46:00 | I would say that a lot of people are interested in the whole Web making/design/etc. It is NOT as simple a subject as one would think. I see two clear levels of "want to know". Those who will want to learn html & those who don't, like me. For a professional it IS neccessary to learn it. For someone like myself, a WYSIWYG type program, if I have got that right is all I want. By that I mean something like that in MS Word. I did design one the other day & I thought it was pretty good, for me. However it was flawed as metla pointed out to me. His version WAS superior, it worked properly. I have yet to see a freeware program do just what I want......simple commands, easy to understand, written by someone who realises that I DON'T KNOW what they know, explains things simply & fully, without me having to guess. Not all of us, anymore, have the ability to problem solve as we once did. It takes more than one clout of the hammer to get the knowledge into the skull. Just an observation Folks. ( Apologies to Scarfie for using his thread.) PJ

2005-02-15 10:38:00 | www.kiwihosting.net.nz I use for my hosting and find them to be very good. They offer special Snitz Plans as well. | Jeremy (1197) | |
2005-02-15 19:50:00 | Thanks Jeremy - checked their site and seemed worth investigating. Didn't see any mention of snitz forums but havn't trolled their boards yet. | scarfie (7324) | |
2005-02-15 19:52:00 | Thanks PJ but I think you are thinking of something else. I'm IT literate and so realise what's involved with web site design. I'm after full discussion board software and web site hosting with domain name etc, not a blog. | scarfie (7324) | |
2005-02-15 20:09:00 | some I've come across - www.hostme.co.nz www.650.co.nz www.jethost.net.nz

2005-02-15 21:19:00 | Thanks DS - their prices look a lot higher than some others suggested so far but will put them on the list for consideration. | scarfie (7324) | |
