325127 2005-02-14 22:53:00 I run Windows XP SP2 Home Edition.
My E-mail client is Outlook Express.
Most of my images in 'My Pictures' are JPEGS and of a large size which generally need to be reduced in size prior to e-mailing.

When I wish to e-mail an image I right click the image in 'My Pictures' and select Send To > Mail Recipient. A dialogue box opens with radio button options to either 'Make all my pictures smaller' or 'Keep the original sizes'. I press the radio button to Make the pictures smaller and then press 'OK'.
At this point nothing happens. I gather that a reduced sized picture is supposed to become attached to an e-mail to be sent, but as I said above Nothing appears at all.
I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

If I follow the same routine in the Image viewer program that came with my camera I get an error message that 'The mail software does not support MAPI or is not set correctly'

My questions are:
What is MAPI and how do I set Outlook Express to support it?
Is this the reason that I get no response when I try to resize the image in 'My pictures'?
Thanks for your help.

325128 2005-02-14 23:06:00 To do this download power tools from here there is a image resizing utility in there that helps with this problem.

325129 2005-02-14 23:14:00 Do you have any apps such as Adobe photo etc, they have the facilty to reduce in size. Cicero (40)
325130 2005-02-14 23:25:00 MAPI

Short for Messaging Application Programming Interface, a system built into Microsoft Windows that enables different e-mail applications to work together to distribute mail. As long as both applications are MAPI-enabled, they can share mail messages with each other.

325131 2005-02-15 00:07:00 May I suggest using PIXresizer? It allows you to resize the photos to any size you want, and you have the option of resizing one photo at a time, or multiple photos at the same time. Additionally, photo's can also be saved as greyscale, although you probably don't want to do this :)

PIXresizer can be found at bluefive.pair.com

325132 2005-02-15 00:11:00 And, after you've resized the photos, you can just compose a new message, and click Attachments, and find where the photos are, and attach them this way.

I realise this doesn't answer your original questions, but this is just a suggestion for resizing and attaching photos in a different way :)

cheers,

325133 2005-02-15 00:50:00 Get Picassa 2
It's free & will resize multiple photos to the size of your choosing, open Outlook Express attach the photos & send them (or use Picasa's built in email client)
It doesn't get any easier, plus you get heaps of other cool features

Thanks for your help
Per article 178077
I do not have any other email clients and at any rate Outlook Express is my default client.

Per article 256986
I did check the registry as suggested and all subkey value data are "image". as they apparently should be.

As I indicated in my original question, I do get the correct dialogue box asking if I want the picture to be made smaller but when I press OK ..nothing happens.
Do you have any further advice?

Thanks for your suggestion.
I have in fact tried Picassa 2 with no luck.
I simply get an error message and no e-mail is generated.

325136 2005-02-15 04:42:00 That's very strange, I've never heard of anyone having problems with it
It can use several different clients for the job, I'm surprised none of them work.
Have you tried the "export" function, it will resize the photos to whatever size you want then attach them in Outlook Express

Have you tried here
