325025 2005-02-14 13:01:00  :dogeye: i don't know what to do this girl sent me this file via msn messenger and it led to these other 9 files which won't be deleted from my computer i tried deleting them as one would get rid of any other files by right-clicking and scrolling down to the delete button and i tried running my norton anti-virus to see if it would get rid of them but they aren't listed as virus. i've tried many many times to get rid of them and they are preventing me from going on msn even if i do try to to sign out and stay that way the files sign me back on and send themselves to my contacts who are quite bermused and keep ringing me for complaints lol this is very..fwustwating lol i don't know what to do please please someone help. These files are 30Mb each and are shortcuts to MS DOS files and have obscene names. help kay1 (7318)
325026 2005-02-14 13:32:00 Hi there

Here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz 16) is a page to go through first.

Then you could try Delete Doctor (www.diskcleaners.com) if the spyware checkers dont clear up the problem.

I'm not an msn messenger expert, so can't solve your problem. But I know that those more knowledgeable than me would like a few more details to be able to help.
You could start by posting details of your Operating System (Windows XP, 98, Firefox or whatever) and then the name of the file you were sent which caused the problem.
The names of the 9 problem files would also help - or anyway, those that aren't obscene, as you say. (And if this is a joke post, posting obscenities wouldn't be funny)
Have you tried any other diagnostic or anti-virus programs apart from Nortons? There are several other free options (Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG, a squared etc) If you have a Trojan, Hijack This can help.
Give more information for help from others tomorrow.

Rob's version was more practical.

325029 2005-02-14 18:04:00 do you get "file in use" error message when tring to delete these files if so try starting your machine in safe mode Press f8 when booting up donot start msn or if it starts up close it, then try deleting them. How well do you know this person who sent you the files try asking her how to get rid of them.
there are a couple of other programs that may help you also A2 ( A squared) and stinger (google these for download) they are dedicated trojin removers download those and try them, A2 requires registration but its free at least for personal use at least.
if you do manage to delete these files I would send them to the recycle bin they may have hooked into other system areas and you may need to restore them (untill we find a way to get rid them)you say that one file recieved by file transfer within msn was reponsible from these files being spawned onto your computer, can you give us the name of that file.

325032 2005-02-14 19:22:00 thanx i tried to delete doctor thing and at first it was working but i had to delete duplications of the original files which caused them to come back again. there are nine files all of which are 30MB and are listed as their name and then 'short-cut to MS DOS program and then 30 MB the files are named "she's ****ing fit" "she can fit her ass in a tea cup" "john kerry as Super Chicken" "Me Pissed!" "titanic2.jpg" "Kool" "Beautiful Ass!" "Me & You Pic" and all of their location is Local Disk D:\ kay1 (7318)
325033 2005-02-14 20:01:00 Yup you have the Bropia worm, which goes thru Messenger..

As stated here

securityresponse.symantec.com

It disables regedit, task manager, and msconfig

Try this dl.filekicker.com from here

www.simplysup.com Update it and do a scan.

It looks like it picks up 2 of these Bropia worms but may or may not fix this specific variant.

Out of interest, kay1 says that a girl sent her the file that caused all this damage. Would that "girl" have been a bot/the virus's payload rather than one of kay1's contacts?
