324980 2005-02-14 09:10:00 Hello at the moment I'm running one off my xp box but want to run it off a linux box that shares internet. Has anyone got this running under linux? Please tell me how! I've tried to get it going under mandrake 10 but couldnt find drivers or anything.
Thanks,
Michael De Vorms

324981 2005-02-14 09:14:00 Hi and Welcome to PressF1 :)

Are you using ethernet or USB to connect the modem to the computer? If you use ethernet, it should just work natively.

324982 2005-02-14 09:19:00 Hi Michael

I am running one of those Telecom D-Link DSL 302G routers via ethernet and seems to work flawlessly...

324983 2005-02-14 09:24:00 Thanks for your comments! Oh yes at the moment I am running usb and that is what I tired to get going under linux. Will buy a ethernet card. Can you please reccomend one that will work?
Also forgot to introduce myself as a new member! My name is Michael De Vorms and I'm a year 2 student doing the Bachelor of Information Communications Technology at UCOL in palmerston. I'm focusing on programming.

324984 2005-02-14 10:02:00 Good to meet you Michael :)

You can just use a cheap NIC card from DSE (the realtek ones) and Linux will automatically detect and configure it.

324985 2005-02-14 10:10:00 Mine is Realtek RTL-8139. Works well with all versions of Linux. johnd (85)
324986 2005-03-06 15:21:00 Im using D-Link DSL-302G ADSL as well, so you can guess Im with Telecom lol.
I had no problems accessing the net thru Linux server, however you may want to configure in your internet configuration.

I connect using ethernet as well, USB isnt recommended. Cheers. :0

324987 2005-07-08 06:50:00 It's an interesting topic to discuss . It's actually my first time to post here, so let me introduce myself . I'm a phd student in computer science at canterbury . Linux has been part of my hobby in the past but I'm not really catching up with the latest techs these days . So I better not claim myself a linux guru .

Generally, as DSL-302G has both ethernet/usb connections, we may simply stick to ehternet line for a linux box .
But in my case, the ethernet line is already occupied by an access point for WLAN, and the usb connection is only available .

Of course, I can add a hub to share this ethernet line, but it's not very challenging :)

Namely, I'm thinking of utilizing the USB connection for my old linux box . It's a AMD K6-III 400Mhz, a fairly old machine running kernel 2 . 2 . Massively customised Redhat 6 . 2 . New distribution tends to be a bit heavy for my poor machine :) I like programming in text-based environ, so this is just sufficient machine for my work . Web-surfing with Lynx browser a fun part too :)

I briefly browsed some info regarding this:
. linux-usb . org/usbnet/" target="_blank">www . linux-usb . org

Supposedly, the current offerings from "usbnet" may detect DSL-302G as an ethernet-like connection . It appears that I should update my kernel to 2 . 4 . X .

I'll do some experiment with this and will post more news soon .

324988 2005-07-08 15:02:00 sung_bae, Ive been using a 2.6-based kernel for approx 18months now....

Ive used usbnet with my USB Network card and it was fine, not too sure about an Adsl Modem however.

It _may_ just work, but I wouldnt count on it.

Let us know how you get on

Cheers

Chill.
