Yeah, it's been mentioned TF, But I don't think it's resize and email on the fly has been tried. File > Email IIRC, not in windows at the mo.

325158 2005-02-17 06:22:00 Most of my images in 'My Pictures' are JPEGS and of a large size which generally need to be reduced in size prior to e-mailing.
Do your pictures actually have a *.jpeg extension or are they *.jpg??

If they are the former, try renaming one to have the extension .jpg and see if that will work.

325159 2005-02-17 06:24:00 Your machine obviously has problems beyond resizing photos.
Picasa won't work, Windows resizer doesn't work, IE has problems
Time to restore way back, format or get professional help before the problem gets any bigger
Those are my thoughts as well but it is a rather drastic solution to reformat.. . :(

Good thinking Foxy. Also, are the correct extensions listed in the Windows Explorer > Tools > Options > File Types: JPG, JPEG and JPE.

That's what I'm afraid will be the outcome.
I have already tried a full repair of windows XP with no improvement.
Unfortunately I don't feel confidant enough to do a reformat which is probably what it needs.
Thanks for your interest.

Unfortunately your last hint didn't do the trick but I did get a kick out of it all the same.
Thanks for your advice.

I agree, time for professional help at the rock face.
Thanks for your interest.

Sloppy typing on my part. All the images have the
*.jpg extension.

Murray:
In the 'File Types' tab;
Extension JPE is associated with JPEG Image
Extension JPEG is associated with JPEG Image
Extension JPG is associated with JPG File

Does this seem correct?

325163 2005-02-17 11:45:00 Try associating it with an image. Murray P (44)

A reformat with Win XP is very easy but time consuming as all your programs need to be reinstalled and the Windows updates reapplied . The hardest part is ensuring that you have backed up all the data that you wish to keep - and remember that applies whether you reformat yourself or get a professional to do it .

If you wish to go down that track we are more than happy to help . :)

325165 2005-02-17 21:07:00 Another idea.
Do you have any other user accounts on the computer . If so jump into one of them and see if you can do it on there.
It could be your account is corrupted .
If this is the case save what you need and create a new account.

I did associate JPG with JPEG Image (the default) but it made no difference to the problem with the e-mailing process.

FoxyMX:
At this point I'm actually prepared to do a reformat and ALL my important files have been burnt to a couple of CDs.
But I have looked at various sites on the MS system relating to reformatting and it seems so complicated that I'm not sure I'm up to it.
I appreciate your offer to help but on the other hand once I have started the process I will obviously not be able to access this forum and your help.
Do yo know of any really simple sites with really simple directions as to how to do a reformat?
To one who grew up in an age when computers did not exist outside a university, they (the innards of computers and their operating systems) are quite daunting.

Johnboy:
There are no other user accounts on the computer but following your line of reasoning I created a new one......sadly this made no difference.
