0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 12)

Above the result from that command, Jen.
Here is the module I used in /etc/modules.d/alsa
"alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0"

I picked up from the guide that intel8x0 is the right (generic) driver for that whole family of Intel sound devices.

"emerge alsa-utils" done.

Chill, when I "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp" , nothing happens, it just sits there, I waited about 5 mins, nothing.

324979 2005-02-19 19:20:00 At last I have sound :D

Dont quite know how; but mucking around in /etc/modules.d/alsa and suddenly it hit, very loud.

I used the mixer to adjust volumes and it all seems OK.

Thanks again Jen & Chill; you are very patient people.

Next step; printer. I could never get it to work with Libranet; its an Epson Stylus Photo R210.

I'm going away for a few days, so I could have a look at it when I come back.
