I attempted to do as you suggest but when I was prompted to insert my original installation disc for Windows XP, I received a warning that since the version of Windows on the disc was older than the version on my machine, some data could not be recovered.

I realize that this is because I have since upgraded to SP2 in the interim period, but I was a bit hesitant to proceed with the installation in case I really messed things up.

Should I just proceed with the installation using my original XP disc and then reinstall SP2 or should I abandon the mission entirely?
Thanks for your advice.

325148 2005-02-16 23:58:00 Have a look at this page which explains this problem with scannow .
www.updatexp.com
I usually just click o.k and it eventally finishes.

Sorry to sound so lame but I did exactly as suggested in the article i.e. copied the 'I386' file as suggested to the root then edited the registry to the value C:\ and then successfully ran sfc /scannow...........all to no avail the problem still persists.
I am really mystified now since I gather from the articles that you suggested that this program in fact fixes corrupt files.
Is it possible I'm doing something wrong? Frankly I don't think so since I can achieve the e-mail attachment on my friend's computer without any problems.
Perhaps there is some simple setting that I have changed??

325150 2005-02-17 04:22:00 In Internet Explorer click tools advanced scroll down to multi media see if there is a tick in allow image resizing give restore defaults at the bottom radio button a click too .
close ie then try again with your image.

325151 2005-02-17 04:27:00 I have a lot of sympathy for you as this problem must be driving you up the wall. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any solution to help as other posts with the same issue on other forums frequented by very experienced techs have been left unanswered.

My Win XP Home also has SP2 and I am able to resize my pictures on the fly as you are wanting to do so something has been broken somewhere along the way but the big mystery is what and how to fix it.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is were you ever able to use the resize feature on your computer?

I did that some time ago with no avail .

FoxyMX:

As you say . . its been an exercise in frustration .

In answer to your question : were you ever able to use the resize feature on your computer?

I don't think so . This feature was recently pointed out to me by a friend after I sent him a rather large Image [not resized]
I first noticed it when I tried to do it myself . Then I tried on my friend's computer (to make sure I was doing it correctly) with no problem .

325153 2005-02-17 05:24:00 I am wondering whether any of the other graphics programs have broken the resize feature. That could very well have happened but it is anybody's guess which one. Even if you uninstalled them all there is no guarantee that will fix it unless you are prepared to reinstall Windows as well, which also means downloading and reinstalling all the Windows updates. Even then there is no guarantee... :( FoxyMX (5)
325154 2005-02-17 05:26:00 I have one last idea before giving up
Try this here (sal.neoburn.net) it may not help but you can get a kick out of it any way.

325155 2005-02-17 05:31:00 Your machine obviously has problems beyond resizing photos.
Picasa won't work, Windows resizer doesn't work, IE has problems
Time to restore way back, format or get professional help before the problem gets any bigger
