Thanks for your reply.

My PC is a DIY ie. I got the parts and the shop assembled it for me. I'm wondering if my being very near the equator (warm weather all year round) also plays a part in the high temp and if so, whether an additional fan is still necessary.

I've not really been keeping track of what time it boots up exactly. Only know that it is between midnight and 6am (I've learnt to sleep through the noise)

325194 2005-02-16 05:58:00 The temps do look high although CPU at 58c should not cause a shutdown, what is your shutdown temp set to. System temp at 98c looks more like a shutdown temp than a system temp, it's probably misreported (you can't trust reported temps).

Turn off auto boot on errors in XP.

The wake on LAN. etc, is usually found in Chipset Features (or some such) in the BIOS not power saving.

What is that win32 time event, look up the event ID.

Have a look here (www.blackviper.com) for disabling unwanted/un-needed services, courtesy of Black Viper.

325195 2005-02-18 05:48:00 Hi Murray P,
My PC's stopped booting up by itself for 2 days now. The last thing I did was to go into the BIOS to Disable "Wake on PME'.

I'm wondering what are these Power Management Events?

As for the Event ID for WIN32, its
- Source: W32Time, Event ID: 29
- Source: W32Time, Event ID: 17

Could you also tell me what this error means?
- Source: DCOM, Event ID: 10005 (cannot start in SafeMode)
As my PC is still not able to start up in Safe Mode. What happens when I hit the function keys at Start Up is that I am brought to the screen to select the mode in which to start. I'd select Safe Mode and the computer reboots, problem is that the reboot is interrupted and the error message says that it was interrupted and that there are possibly errors in the hardware/software.

Any ideas?

Thanks again

325196 2005-02-18 08:10:00 Event ID (www.eventid.net)

the MS KB (support.microsoft.com) articale for the DCOM event doesn't look quiet right to me, worth checking out tho. I take it you have no need for MS IIS, check out the Black Viper site for what to do with it.

I don't think the time events have a bearing on the issue.

325197 2005-02-23 16:07:00 Hi again,
Still not successful in starting the PC in Safe Mode.
Tried tweaking the BOOT.INI without success. Basically what happens after I hit the function keys, is that I have the option to start in the Safe Mode but as the PC reboots, it gets interrupted and I get a message saying that " We apologize but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this..."

Also, this is what I got from the Event Viewer with respect to starting in the Safe Mode -
Source: DCOM
Category: None
Type: Error
Event ID: 10005
Description: DCOM got error "This service cannot be started in Safe Mode" attempting to start the service EventSystem with arguments "" in order to run the server: {1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF}

Does this mean anything?

Looking forward to your answers.

Thanks
