| 325053 | 2005-02-14 10:44:00 | Um guys, dual layer DVD burners are the norm now, I haven't sold a single layer in ages, in fact I don't even stock them anymore. They're dirt cheap, equal or less in price than the obsolete single layer. Having said that, nobody uses dual layer anyway... but the point remains, find me a single layer 16X drive for significantly less than $130 and I'll change opinion. Yeah yeah... all very well, but find me cheap 16X single layer media while you're at it... The most reasonable media at the moment still has to be the 4X stuff. Lo. |

| 325054 | 2005-02-14 10:52:00 | Thanks for your opinion Lohsing. However Id still second Georges comment - Im sure most stores are now phasing out the single layer variety, and 4x media are abundant but keep in mind dual layer drives may future-proof your investment as faster media are being introduced to the market. ;) Just my two cents worth. Peace. David |

I have just added a Gecube Radeon 900 pro to my machine and play online etc here and it runs them fine. You can spend a portune on Graphics cards but I suggest grab one that will do to your needs, if you need more Graphics power in the future buy a bigger card and by then there will be a whole new more powerful range out there. What about case and cooling?? The LCD is nice...its what I got for christmas and love it.....funny thing is I got it as a present but when it comes time to make payments it always seems to come out of my wages...oh well maybe the wife to be is a lot smarter than she lets on lol. |

| 325056 | 2005-02-14 11:09:00 | Thanks Lohsing for the input. Yeah I would probably agree with the dual layer burner theory as I reckon I wouldnt use the drive as often. As for the RAM yeah I would go for a gig considering the fact that the machine would be used for video editing and stuffs like that, probably couple that with an extra hard drive for storage etc Go for Dual Channel then as this makes a huge difference to memory speed. Thats if the MB can handle it. |

| 325057 | 2005-02-14 11:11:00 | Cheers for the outlook dipstick01 . As for the case I have decided to get one of those black / silver ones for $85 from QMB computers with a 300W PSU . . exs . cx/img135/1701/case4cv . th . gif" target="_blank">img135 . exs . cx ( . exs . cx/my . php?loc=img135&image=case4cv . gif" target="_blank">img135 . exs . cx) I assume cooling would be the one of those standard AMD heatsink and fan that comes with the retail box . Thanks for the feedback really appreciate it . Cheers . David |

| 325058 | 2005-02-14 11:21:00 | Thanks Big John for the response. I am not really a computer whiz but would the memory (Legend High Quality 512MB DDRAM PC3200 DDR400) and motherboard (Asus K8N) fit into the Dual Channel description? Thanks for the mention appreciate that. Cheers. David |

| 325059 | 2005-02-14 11:24:00 | Indifferent case/ poor power supply. Though they have improved I still wouldn't trust my hard earned cash with a 300 watt hynena powersupply. They have in my experience had a habit of going boom and taking everything with them. If you are trying to save money go for a chumya generic case dump the power supplyand put a 400 watt powersupply from from a recognised company into it. |

| 325060 | 2005-02-14 11:40:00 | Cheers The Highlander for the advice . Found a couple of Foxconn Hyena cases on Pricespy for $69 . Prevention is better than cure it seems as I think I may have recalled an article on PC World regarding dodgy PSUs  Thanks for the feedback . Cheers and good night everyone ::yawns:: . David |

Run with the dual layer burner, the media will come down in price, eventually, overall better firmware and more likely to be updated than single layer. Be nice to have a better video card, but you could always pop a better one in later if you find you're needing more grunt that you presently use. I agree with the Highlander, anything with a Hyena PSU is asking for trouble. |
