325198 2005-02-15 02:30:00 I use the HP Memories disk at work, but when I put a shortcut to my desktop it would not work.
I get the following messages:

1. The feature that you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. WHY? I've used it heaps of times.

2. Enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package hpmdinst.msi I can't find this anywhere - spent 2 hours looking for it - even a search did not find it.

3. Error 1706 no valid source could be found for hpmem disk.

Please, can anyone give me some idiot-proof directions (I am an absolute novice when it comes to this sort of thin) to get this programme up and running again?

Thanks
Brenda

325199 2005-02-15 03:59:00 Has the software on the CD actually been installed onto the hard drive??

By the sounds of it, u created a link directly from the CD itself, without installing whatever is on it onto the hdd. And since the cd isnt in the cdrom it cant find it, and thats your prob.

325201 2005-02-15 09:21:00 This error is a Windows Installer error. You may be getting it because your app HP Memories has updated itself (from the internet) or some other update has changed a component your app uses (a windows update or another app gettting installed). Therefore the program is trying to find a source to reinstall itself but can't.

You basically need to reinstall the program again (from a CD or network share) or your Windows Installer service is corrupt.

325202 2005-02-17 03:44:00 Thank you for your help re my problem with the memories disk.

My computer is not connected to the internet, and why I'm having this problem I really don't know. All I know is that it has happened.

However, I have just learned my lesson - when all else fails READ THE MANUAL!!!!!

There is a system application restore which I had not noticed, so now I should be able to get the programme back again. At least the boss will - I'm not touching anything again.

Thanks one and all,
Brenda :badpc:
