324828 2005-02-14 06:38:00 I got my mate a mx4000 for his pc, however I was unaware it was one of those horrible fanless things...

During the hot spell auckland has just had my pc was overheating chronically (probably cos its overclocked) and during nfsu2 my mates computer started to get a bit jumpy on the frames?

Is this a result of overheating of the GFX chipset? Shud I screw a fan on to be safe for the future?

Cheers

324829 2005-02-14 06:53:00 will it fit tho, my 9600se has passive fans and its still pretty cool Prescott (11)
324830 2005-02-14 07:05:00 It's possibly more to do with a lack of airflow in the case. Reposition or add extra case fans. Murray P (44)
324831 2005-02-14 07:13:00 Dick smith have a dinky little heatsink fan combo for vid cards that would probably help plus as Murray P said add extra fans and improve airflow. the highlander (245)
324832 2005-02-14 07:35:00 well, i meant passive heatsink, as in no fan.. so no idea wat a passive fan is lol...

unless you meant to say heatsink Prescott ?

Anyways, it got a fan in the PSU and one underneath that.. both exhausting...

And theres holes all teh way down the back of the case.

All I was wondering was how affective it would be...

Oh, and as for those DSE things, my gfx card has one... the aint to bad.. but theyre $30... and my mates a student...

324833 2005-02-14 08:10:00 Cheap method
Side cover off
Desk Fan aimed at mobo (as far away from monitor as possible)
turn on full bore
crude but effective

324834 2005-02-14 08:27:00 overheating a vid card is not likly to cause "to get a bit jumpy on the frames". most often the pc will just crash. tweak'e (69)
