324813 2005-02-14 02:21:00 First time user so hope anyone can help.

Running XP Home, SP2, Outlook 2003, Norton AV 2004

I currently use Outlook 2003. When trying to send email using Outlook (and Thunderbird) through pop3 account i get the following message pop-up from symantec:

Your email message was unable to be sent because your mail server rejected the message:
553 Authentication required to send mail as
<**********@xtra.co.nz>

1003, 11

I have tried calling Xtra help, going to the Symantec website and doing everything on their help page and using their tech support people (who simply tell me to go to the help page etc) and also uninstalling NAV, nothing works.

Any suggestions please.

324815 2005-02-14 03:34:00 Hi Frustrated_one,
Welcome to PressF1

Have you setup NortonAV to use your Username/Password from Outlook?

Try disabling NortonAV and see what happens.

Chill.

324816 2005-02-14 03:34:00 Thanks Speedy but already tried everything on that link. Frustrated_one (7308)
324817 2005-02-14 03:55:00 Putting your error message into Google yields a lot of similar problems.

Have a look at this one, scrolling down to PCMechanics response, it may help.

324819 2005-02-14 04:40:00 Hi

It may pay to go back to basics and check all your settings using this xtra guide here (www.xtra.co.nz) to make sure a setting hasn't been overlooked. :)

Did Thunderbird import your Outlook settings when it was setup? You aren't trying to send emails with a from address which isn't @xtra.co.nz?

324820 2005-02-14 04:44:00 Is your Xtra mail account a secure mail one, in which case you will have to select and configure a secure smtp in Outlook settings.
www.xtra.co.nz

If it is not a secure Xtra mail account check that you do not have smtp authentication selected in Outlook.

Also try disable Outgoing mail scan in Norton.

324821 2005-02-14 07:28:00 Thanks Jen & Safari but already tried your suggestions. Alas may have to take the drastic step of reformatting and loading everything again. Frustrated_one (7308)
