325915 2005-02-17 09:00:00 after installing a network card, and a resulting socket conflict I can connect to my isp but cant view any webpages or connect with outlook express. I've tried a winsock 2 fix, and various other changes with my isp helpdesk. They sugested replacing tcp/ip but they said i'd need the windows 98se cd which i dont have. Thanks to some helpfull users I found a winsock 2 program and used that for the winsock2 fix.
Is there a similar program to replace tcp/ip.

325916 2005-02-17 09:16:00 They are pretty linked together. One generally does the other.

I vote we move to a paper cup and string transport stack.

325917 2005-02-17 09:21:00 hmm, the problem started after my mcafee virus scanner told me my sockets had changed and it would reconfigure something, and i now need to restart. I cant find anything in the program about this. Any ideas? Hersh (7042)
325918 2005-02-17 09:27:00 have you checked on your pc that the windows cabs may be already on the hardrive.

also it may pay to get dailup netwoking 1.4 upgrade for 98se.

most likly you will need to uninstall the antivirus and firewalls (if your lucky disabling the pop3 scan and firewall MAY work) then you can remove tcp/ip and reinstall it etc.

Control Panels/Network
All you should have here is -
Client for MS Networks
Dialup Adapter
TCP/IP
Remove any others and also any duplicates of those 3

To reinstall TCP/IP hilight and remove.
Click on Add then Protocol and Add
Select Microsoft from the list then TCP/IP
Click OK

Check also the Server Types in your Dialup connection
My Computer/Dialup networking
Right click ISP icon and select Properties
Select Server Types tab
Untick - Logon to network, Netbeui and IPX/SPX

325922 2005-02-18 04:50:00 Yeah Realtek is the chipset - uber generic network card.

That all looks fine, thouch chances are you don't need NetBEUI
