325728 2005-02-16 21:48:00 I have connected a secondary master that is being recognised in bios but not xp pro.
How can I get xp to see it?

325729 2005-02-16 21:56:00 Is the secondary master a hard drive?? Or CD/DVD?

If a hdd, has it been formatted??

If not go to control panel/admin tools/computer management / disk management. See if any entries here say unallocated. Thats your hdd.

325730 2005-02-16 22:38:00 Hey speedy, yes the drive is hdd and thanks for the directions, but no the hdd is not shown in the list. nodrog (7115)
325731 2005-02-16 22:41:00 OK. Is this hdd by itself on the secondary IDE connection?? It's not with a DVD or something??

How big is this hdd you installed?? How many GB??

325732 2005-02-16 23:01:00 hdd is western digital wd80eb-28cgh2 from an xbox

325733 2005-02-16 23:10:00 Hmm if it came from an XBox and u havent formatted it, it should appear in the post I gave above, saying unallocated and how many gb's it is. All u have to do is highlight it and select partition/format it. Has it been formatted for windows yet???

Whats it say in Device manager under disk drives for this hdd?
Speedy Gonzales (78)
325734 2005-02-16 23:53:00 the hdd appears in device manager, says its working ok, although the vloumes tab the type is 'unknown' status is 'unreadable' partition style 'not applicable' capacity '0 mb' unallocated space '0 mb' reserved space '0 mb'
I wonder if it has been disabled for any other use than the original purpose? Doesn't seem likely though......?
All i wanted to do was load xp, winamp and mp3 files onto it to run through the audio out into my stereo.

325735 2005-02-17 10:29:00 you could try a low level format (using your bios), but I'd first check it out with WD tools (support.wdc.com)

I believe you are after Data Lifeguard on the WD website.
