325693 2005-02-16 17:56:00 Hi all, I just purchased a 2.5 laptop hard drive and installed it in a case to use as an external disc drive. Plugged it in to the USB and the system acknowledges its existance and tells me it is working properly. However, if I go to my computer or try to save anything to it, it doesn't exist!!!!! Am I thick or something? Where is it and what can I do to get the drive recognised? I really would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks - Sue :@@: soosin1 (7342)

If not,
Right click on my computer and select manage, then go into disk management.

Before you can use a hard drive it will need to be partitioned and formatted. Have you done this? What operating system are you using?

325696 2005-02-16 18:14:00 I am using XP, got computer management open and it shows Disc 1 unallocated. Is this my external drive? Could you kindly guide me through the steps to get this formatted etc. I don't have a clue what I am doing here!!! Just completely out of my depth. Thanks for the helps so far - Sue soosin1 (7342)
