| 325600 | 2005-02-16 09:01:00 | Hi All Has anyone here done a firmware upgrade on an old HP laser printer? Apparently you can upgrade the firmware via the internet but I'm blowed if I can find where. I have tried PF1, Google and hp.com without success. If I can upgrade over the internet then I would like to upgrade the firmware for some LaserJet 4's, 4+'s, 5's, 5M's etc.... TIA, Andrew |

| 325601 | 2005-02-16 09:17:00 | Obligatory: You should only upgrade firmware if you actually stand to make real gain from doing so. I'd never do a firmware flash via the net. Way too risky. |

| 325602 | 2005-02-16 10:19:00 | From HP Forum: The only way to update the firmware in most HP laser printers is by replacing the formatter board. Unless the formatter breaks, it is not worth replacing. There is nothing wrong with trying to update your firmware though, as Dewaine suggests. Usually people who do not understand how to update firmware or BIOS software have problems. In this case, the firmware is not worth trying to update. HP started the practice of updating the firmware in the 8150 series (not 8000) and 9000 series laser printers. I'm sure there are many other new printers, but I have not seen them yet. For the Jetdirect cards (not the printer firmware itself) you should use HP Download Manager |
