325383 2005-02-15 21:27:00 I am an older user of PC's and don't know too much about them. I have Windows XP and the other day I noticed I had 4 little computers in the right hand corner of my screen and two of them were talking to each other. This happened over night. I used to have only two and one of them said it was a local area network cable unplugged. We've checked and everything seems to be ok except for the extra two computers. Could someone please help an old lady???? Sand (7332)

To get rid of the network cable unplugged right click the local area connection icon and click disable.

325386 2005-02-15 22:23:00 Do you know if that system has firewire or a tv tuner on it??

Firewire should appear in My network places / view network connections as 1394 connection. If this is ticked under properties, this will show on the desktop as a monitor. Altho, if u have a tv tuner, this does show when u first install the tuner, BUT the icon for it, doesnt appear in My network places afterwards.

I would check under My Network places / view network connections. See how many icons are there. 1 would be dialup, the other LAN, and the other 2 possibly firewire and somethng else.

Love the terminology!

Your computer evidently has some built in networking hardware. The "two computers that are talking to each other" indicate your connection to the Internet.

The "two computers" that aren't talking to each other are the network card/s that aren't active.

it's nothing to worry about. To be nice and tidy you could disable the "two that aren't talking" by going into your Hardware properties. That would get rid of them.

Need more info on how to do it? Let us know.
