| 325861 | 2005-02-18 00:44:00 | I recommend Asus as good value. I just bought a M6000R as follows; PM Centrino 1.6 (built in wireless networking, should be good battery life considering what it's running) 512 mb RAM 40 GB HD Combo drive - no DVD write 15.4 " screen (may chew battery, I dunno) Radeon 9100 128 mb shared graphics card $2189 including GST and the extra 128 mb RAM I looked around a lot and this was by a long shot the best deal for me, but a smaller lighter unit with a smaller screen won't chew as much battery and may be your better choice. All Asus models seem cheap and there's a price war on at the momenmt for PCs like mine so they'll get cheaper - maybe new models are on the way... I may get shot down in flames by more knowledgeable posters but it seems to me Celeron is budget and a little slow - maybe equivalent to older processers with the same speed. In any case, if you're using more than 1 programme at once, (email+browser+word+excel+etc etc) spend $90 bucks to get an extra 128 mb RAM and have 512 - the best bang for your buck upgrade. Good luck JE |
