325687 2005-02-18 21:15:00 Metla, Rob - still cannot see how this answers my question about not being able to open a jpEg.

Your just making an association with PS to JPEG that Windows (IE) will remember. If it doesn't open then suspect a deficiency in the programme or a problem. Is there a bug fix for PS 6 at Adobe or perhaps a plugin required?

325688 2005-02-19 00:37:00 I have Photoshop 7, and it opens jpeg's fine..
Are you getting an error when trying to open them? or is your system just opening the images with another program?

Mary, there is no error message since PS6 does not even "see" the files. That is, if there are 3 jpgs and 3 jpEg photos in one folder, PS6 will only see the 3 jpgs, not all 6 photos.

Referring to Nigel's comment above:
I have the exact same problem with photoshop 6 not seeing .jpeg files, but the .jpeg opens fine in fireworks which seems odd as i would have thought photoshop would have had greater support.

... it would see that PS6 has a limitation with reading jpEgs. Seems odd, though.

Once I used IrfanView's batch file processing to convert the jpEg's to jpgs, but otherwise only the odd jpEg sneaks through so I convert the file name manually.

325690 2005-02-20 04:10:00 Hi Steve. I too have PS 6.0.1. Never any problem opening and dealing to the file-types you mention. Your programme does appear to be at fault. Scouse (83)

by right clicking >> open with >> select program >> PS6

but If I am in photoshop 6, I can't see '.jpeg' files so I can't open them from within Photoshop, i can however see .jpg files and open them

It seems a strange oversight on Adobes behalf

Yes, same here. Exporer (thumbnails), IrfanView, MS Windo/Fax Viewer - all can deal with JPEGs.
