I have read through the appropriate topics I found in the Search section for this question, but none have helped at all. When I click on Automatic Update - Wins XP SP2 - everything freezes, can't close down the little window and only way to get shot of it is to shut down or restart the computer. In services, I had auto updates on automatic and to let me know when and what the updates are, etc. Now I have stopped AutoUps and disabled it - in Services. That's using Int Exp 6 instead of my usual faster/flasher Opera 7.3. Tried downloading updates from the m/soft site but blowed if I know what happened to them. Nothing in the Wins Update Folder in Prog Files and nothing on the install/uninstall list either. Is there any other way of checking to see if the WinsUpdates made it through or not?? Advice/help please. :help: |

I would do a virus or spyware scan. Some trojans etc can enter info under the windowsupdate entry in the registry. This maybe one reason why it freezes.
Any other browser besides IE wont load windowsupdate, or give u the options / files to download. I would enable automatic updates in services again. And do the above virus scan. |

Thanks. Am all up to date with daily AVG virus scans and updates for that. I had another look at the System Properties in Control Panel - clicked a couple of different spaces, rebooted and its all ok again. I realise MSoft doesn't load on Opera - much gnashing of teeth while waiting for IEXPl to do its slow thing. Will stick with downloading from the site as I agree with most other people about how the auto updates can be such a nuisance. Thanks again. |
