1379699 2014-07-20 09:37:00 Hi,
I am trying tying to build a computer to run my HO railway. I am running with a computer with XP but need to up grade.
I have a computer with a not that old motherboard and would like to know if is able to take a bigger hard drive so I can run windows 7 or 8
The mother board is a Gigabyte P4 Titan GA-8VM800PMD-775-RH

Also how big can I go with a graphics card.

Thank you.

That motherboard is limited to 2 GB of ram

1379702 2014-07-20 10:06:00 Depends on the motherboard you get. Some have onboard video now like the socket 1150 motherboards. But if you get a more recent motherboard (if it's not a socket 775), like the one you've got, you'll have to buy a processor as well.

More recent motherboard support USB 2 and 3, and SATA 2 and 3...You can get SATA 3 hard drives for around $70. Depending on what features you want the motherboard to have, prices can go from $90 upwards. Processors (well the cheapest go for around $90). Then add windows 7 or 8 on top of that. Thats around $150- 220/230). Depending on the version of windows

1379704 2014-07-20 10:13:00 No probs. I just finished making one up here last week. Took a while to get the parts for it. Costs around $814, so far.

The motherboard, processor, case, the SSD hard drive, the power supply, 4 gb ram, and a dvd burner. All up, it'll probably cost just over $1000 once I get 3 more sticks of ram in a few weeks / months time

1379706 2014-07-20 10:25:00 A laptop would probably be cheaper. But there's a lot of junk that comes with most of them. Thats why I prefer to make my own. It doesnt get filled up with things, I dont need. But if it did, I would format and reinstall windows Speedy Gonzales (78)
