1379073 2014-07-12 23:24:00 I heard the Motherboards are running at 10Mb/s so don't you need 2 SSD drives for that. Can you hook up 2 SSD drives together and get twice the data transfer rate? lostsoul62 (16011)
1379074 2014-07-12 23:34:00 Don't think so. You maybe talking about the M.2 slot some mobos have?? If M.2 is used, on some mobos it'll disable 1-2 SATA ports Speedy Gonzales (78)
1379075 2014-07-13 00:06:00 M.2 can go to 10 GB, not 10 MB / s Speedy Gonzales (78)
1379076 2014-07-13 04:38:00 Yes you could if you use a raid array but it might mess up trim support etc and really why would you bother, 1 SSD is fast enough. Then it would depend on the motherboard controller, 1 SSD can max out a SATA port so to get more speed you'd need two separate ports that didn't share bandwidth, I'm not sure how controllers are generally configured but you'd need to check. Even if it works you'd be in the realms of diminishing returns where you may not even notice the extra speed for all the hassle it took to get it.

The only thing it would do is slighty improve load times, you could not copy anything at those speeds unless you had a second array just as fast on it's on bandwidth to copy to. There may be server applications for that kind of speed and bandwidth but for home use it's a largely pointless exercise. Just use one fast drive and be happy.

1379077 2014-07-13 07:02:00 not only that, considering the cost of an SSD wouldn't you rather have more space than more speed? Slankydudl (16687)

no way !
i don't fill the drive bugger all and slow drives are cheap for bulk storage.

give me speed man !!!

1379079 2014-07-13 08:49:00 Same here. I'm only using 38 GB of one 200 GB partition. And that's with Windows 8.1, office 2013, poweriso, mirc, ccleaner, defraggler, and the windows / office updates, firefox. the drivers, winrar . So a 250 GB SSD wont fill up in a hurry Speedy Gonzales (78)
1379080 2014-07-13 09:07:00 funny enough i'm about the same. using 34 gig on a 80 gig drive.
tho i have bulk storage on 2 other drives.

1379081 2014-07-13 10:00:00 Well, I've nudged up to 80GB on my 250GB SSD. Pushed everything I could think would even slightly benefit from the speed onto it but still have heaps of space left. linw (53)
1379082 2014-07-13 12:52:00 I have 175G used on my SSD, some very large game installs are over half of it though. dugimodo (138)
