1379993 2014-07-23 22:26:00 Friend bought an Asus Ultrabook for her daughter for her uni work.

She just rang and asked me how to create a recovery disc (Windows 8.1) as she couldn't find any Asus utilities to create a Win8.1 DVD just in case something should go wrong, eg. if the hdd dies. She owned a older Win7 Asus notebook before and there's a utility to create those DVDs.

Has Asus dumped that utility just to save costs? If so, does it mean that she has to buy a new copy of Win8 if the hdd dies or the if recovery partition is corrupted?

Cheers

1379996 2014-07-23 23:09:00 Win 8 has a built-in "Create recovery drive" feature which you can use to create a bootable USB drive, including a tick box option to include drivers etc from the recovery partition. inphinity (7274)

1379998 2014-07-23 23:47:00 Here (windows.microsoft.com)

If Win8 is on it now, and you update it to 8.1. If you refresh it, you'll have to reinstall 8.1 again
