1365296 2014-01-16 07:34:00 Come on XP, hurry up and die. pcuser42 (130)
1365297 2014-01-16 07:55:00 Nothing wrong with XP its better than the rubbish 8.1 I'm forced to use at work, would prefer win7 at work but have no choice.

I still use XP on 2 machines at home one is for my 3D printer never likely to be upgraded, the other is SWMBO's PC might eventually get upgraded but since it still works and she is happy with it then it won't happen anytime soon

BRAVO GOOD SIR BRAVO INDEED

though you might actually want to look at 8 . 1 for your 3d printer as ive heard 8 . x includes a 3d printer API which may be mutually supported by the software YOU ALREADY USE and the hardware YOU ALREADY HAVE .

kudo's on your vagina laden companion using teh compootahs .

im pirating the multiseat server 2011 to maike my computer more useful .

they shoudl uh, like, duh, "open source kinda" NT5 . x and charge $1 for licenses . and release 8 . 2 and 8 . 4 and 8 . 5 etc before releasign amazing windows9 because windows 8 got really good eventually .

windows 9 should run ARM on x86 and x86 on ARM . im understanding phone9/RT will merge and windows9 will have a statmenu OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!:; this should be 8 . 2

USE 8 . x to try things out and iron out all the box .

release windows9 as "there is no other version: all the features in one version . . . no distinctions between different SKU's because there is only one .

during installation the formfactor decides wich features shoudl be exposed to the user and the rest remain either on the drive or installation medium . on the drive seems obvious ebcause phones shoudl be 32GB standard by then; anything with less will obviosuly be running android or winphone8 . x

someone shoot me if m$ doesnt wise up between now and mid 2015 and give windowsXP to humanity . its gonna contriubute to the staying power of the windows platform significantly .

supporting a directx9 path is not dissimilar to supporting a openGL codepath and iir the latest versions of openGL run on XP . translations of dx1x . x to openGL have been demonstrated so its conceivable with open sourcing windows XP will prove to be able to stand the test of time .

id like to advocate linux or even mac (now theres a thought) but ultimately i feel the real change the future brings to computign is that no one really cares what is being used anymore .

Ain't gonna happen; they're completely incompatible. Apps will need to be recompiled.

So basically you want to give away to the world old, insecure technology. Great

XP will still be end of life in a couple of months, April. Its only certain parts carrying on.

"Microsoft has announced the Windows XP end of support date of April 8, 2014. After this date, Windows XP will no longer be a supported operating system. To help organizations complete their migrations, Microsoft will continue to provide updates to our antimalware signatures and engine for Windows XP users through July 14, 2015".

while Microsoft will stop providing security patches and fixes for the ancient operating system on April 8 of this year, it will continue to provide malware definitions well into 2015.

In other words Microsoft security for XP will continue, NOT the OS.

CPU Emulators exist and simply running is good enough for the majority of apps people care about. some gpgpu acceleration may assist this..

running ARM on x86 is obviously going to be much easier and the majority of x86 apps people will want to run on arm will be old; thus also easy to emulate. ARM desktop please (quadcore 3-4GHz).

and no. i believe these flaws are easy to fix and inherent in even the most modern operating systems. you dont want the zeroday-blackmarket to explode do you?

what risk is to their bottome line? none; infact it adds value to the windows platform. AND THEY DONT EVEN NEED TO SUPPORT IT LOLOLOLOLOL.

grandma is running xpSP3, grandson installs xpCB1 (xp community build 1)

Indeed (though the article is not very specific).
