326186 2005-02-18 08:05:00 Hi,

Was doing a little hunting last night for a new accounting package and came across Exonet. I emailed for a trial last night and at 1030 this morning I had a call from a guy in Sydney wanting to answer any questions I had and confirm my postal details.

I am looking at upgrading from NZA gold and need a program that can run a negative stock count(MYOB cant do this) and that is fairly idiot proof. I run a fairly small business with around 100 debtors and 3500 stock items(not all active of course).

I guess my question is does anyone here run or know anything about exonet 6000. From what I have read it sounds like it might suit my needs any comments? Anyone know what its worth?

cheers for the help

Mike

326187 2005-02-18 08:15:00 Yeah I know, it should have gone in the OT section, sorry bout that. If there is someone around that can move it, feel free. miknz (3731)

But seriously Mike, I have had experience with Exonet in 2 different businesses and despite the limitations of NZA Gold, IMO you will be taking a massive step backwards. Think clunky. Think accounting systems running your business, instead of you running your business. Think middleware. At one of my clients I wrote some middleware to patch some Exonet middleware - in other words, their custom patch still couldn't do the job the client wanted. I'd give you some examples but I think you get my point. Think "yes yes yes" from the salesmen, think "no no no" from their technical staff. I'm not sure of the cost but save yourself the list price (plus the same again) - you might want to find a work-around for NZA Gold if the negative stock is your only beef.

Right then, I need to change from nza and I hate MYOB! So what software is the best with out going over the top and spending thousands? Any ideas?
I had a look at the Accredo site that Wotz put up and it looks ok, am downloading demo

I'm with you on MYOB - horrible horrible software. Exonet will cost thousands - possibly tens of thousands. For a small business I would recommend Moneyworks from Cognito (http://www.cognito.co.nz/). Good for keeping the books and GST etc but I wrote my own billing software because I didn't like the look of their invoices - although there is a facility for me to modify the look of the invoice, after 7+ years of using their products I have never got around to looking at that (methinks *hhmmmm must do that someday*)
