326152 2005-02-18 06:07:00 six months ago i brought a new cpu mother board and ram combo
every thing has been honky dorey then last month it was time
to up grade from me to xp at the same time i got an new video card- ati 9550 with 256mb ram and some more ram -512mb
installed the video card under me and it worked fine but did not install the ram
as me dosn,t like to much ram, so i reformatted the hard drive then installed xp
and then the ram plus sp2 and updates of microsoft website thinking every thing will be sweet, wrong
got error after error and keep crashing all the time so i decied to reformat again an try again, but it would not reformat, it keeped missing filles
all the time an wouldnt load and i was at a lose what to do.
then i toke out the new ram an tryed to format again an it did no problems at all so i put in the new ram again an run it again, again errors an crashes
so after 3 days of trying to fix it i have once again reformatted an had to take out the new ram and am runnig on 256mb ram and all seems to be good.
has anyone got any thoughts as to what could be the problem

326153 2005-02-18 06:13:00 I would guess that this is because the new ram module you have is corrupted. You could try and use only the new ram, and check for the stability. If the system is unstable with only the new ram installed, then it must be uncompatible with your mother board or is corrupted.
BTW, have you overclocked your RAM?? Since different modules have a diffrent amount of tolerance for such things.

326155 2005-02-18 19:32:00 ... also is ther a program that test ram for problemsYou can download and run Memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/). Just follow the instructions given on the site.

From what you have done already, it looks like the new stick of RAM is fautly if the machine only displays the errors when that stick is installed. When running Memtest86, just put in the single new stick and test that. Then remove that stick and put the original one back in and restest it. Are you sure the new RAM is compatibile for the system? If it is only 6 months old, it should be covered under its warranty if it proves faulty.
