| 326271 | 2005-02-19 01:39:00 | That switch and BIOS function were put in so system administrators could catch people installing modems to destroy the company network's security, or "borrowing" memory for their home computers. The Compaq department which highlander imagines can't have been very busy. ;) The first $20 Compaq (Deskpro with a 286) I bought didn't have a BIOS setup in ROM. I had to use DEBUG to set the BIOS to recognise the hard disk. I then wrote a programme to set other options. Eventually I downloaded a copy of the setup programme. I think all my other desktop Compaqs have used F10 to access the setup on disk (though I've had to install the ROMPaqs a few times). |
