326262 2005-02-18 20:33:00 Sorry, my crystal ball is a little fuzzy. What brand is the computer? Edward (31)
326263 2005-02-18 20:37:00 Hi Brandon and Welcome to PressF1 :)

It sounds like a setting in the BIOS has been enabled which detects when the case has been opened and then gives that alert. Go into your BIOS (keep tapping the DEL key normally when first booting), and have a look around for the setting and switch it to disable. See if this helps.

326264 2005-02-18 20:46:00 Compaq computers have a case switch to say when the cover has been removed. If it is a Compaq, then the F10 key is used to get into BIOS setup as it powers up.
The switch setting is under the Security tab, Smart Cover, with the options Cover Lock, or Unlock.

If you are fitting more than 512MB ram, then Windows 98 SE requires a line to be added to system.ini to correct a bug. Post back if that is the case.

326267 2005-02-18 22:28:00 Compaq have always had a department whose sole function seems to be assigning random keys to enter a compaq bios on every model change. the highlander (245)
326268 2005-02-18 23:45:00 sounds like a dell system, the message can be cleared by goin into bios and "clearing the error logs" robsonde (120)

.
Not only Compaq. "Case open" is quite common in a lot of M/B's

326270 2005-02-19 01:37:00 What barnd of mother board do you have? Most mother boards' BIOS, has a setting in which you can disable the Case Open/Closed warnings. ScaredEye (7358)
