326442 2005-02-19 05:04:00 Trying to resurrect old desktop with Win Me & Office XP - logged on & started to download Microsoft updates. After installing first Me udate the PC now only gets to the following message "error loading explorer.exe Reinstall windows" and then turns itself off ...
Any clues how I can proceed plse??

Have a look at this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article and see if it resolves your problem - Error Loading Explorer.exe You Must Reinstall Windows (support.microsoft.com). Post back if you need more assistance.

326444 2005-02-19 06:50:00 i had this same problem with my parents pc also running ME a few months ago. i ended up reinstalling windows, a bummer though..... this error seems to happen quite a bit with ME :( Prescott (11)

thnks - but unable to fix - cant find the Me start-up disk. Any pointer to where / how I can create one plse?

Thanks - still unsuccessful - when I restart it does not pick up the sturt-up. I think I'll buy an XP upgrade & re-install ... not sure how to force my way into this PC's "closed loop" though

326448 2005-02-21 08:51:00 So it is not booting from the startup floppy disk? Did you follow the instructions in creating the boot disk? It may pay to make another one incase your original floppy is a dud. You should also check to make sure your machine can boot from a floppy. When it first starts up, keep tapping the DEL key (normally this one) until you get into the BIOS. Have a look for the boot order and make sure it goes:


Floppy
CD-ROM
C (hard drive)
