326430 2005-02-19 07:00:00 lately im seeing more of the flash ads appearing on PF1, im not sure why they are coming back because when i first installed adblock for firefox i blocked all the ads. when i click on the adblock button it disapears but it might come back later. how do i stop the ads reappearing with out clicking it every day? 326433 2005-02-19 08:16:00 but it was working before, do the ads keep on changing their address? Prescott (11)
326434 2005-02-19 11:31:00 Have you been using the wildcard *.

I delete the first and last bit's of the URL and replace with *

eg. *doubleclick* or *adserver*

326435 2005-02-19 11:50:00 Glad you posted this, Prescott.
It's made me analyse what I've done/not done differently when getting back to Firefox recently after a gap.
(I didn't choose the gap. It played up & I had no time to fix it, so endured the return to Internet Explorer for a while - and didn't enjoy it)
I chose Adblock when I re-installed & have also noticed it didn't seem to be working on some sites (not specifically PF1, whose ads I can live with)
Sambairds reply post re Flashblock reminded me I had that the first time around, so maybe I mistook the name Adblock for that? Or maybe I had both?
Anyway, I have both now.
I note the FAQ suggests sometimes they have problems working togather. I wait to see if that's so. Opinions, anyone?
Meanwhile, thanks Prescott & Sam.

326436 2005-02-19 12:34:00 It's working fine here, but yeah ads change their servers all the time. Wildcards are the ticket. ninja (1671)
326437 2005-02-19 16:40:00 What's a wildcard? Laura (43)
326438 2005-02-19 20:32:00 Wildcard = *

It is short for anything.

eg. http://www.ah2.adserver.whatever.com
if you want to stop adds from this site you would use a wildcard to take out the first and last bits of this address *adserver* so if they change part of the url to http://www.bg1.adserver.whatever.com to give you a different set of adds you still wont see them.

Also many other uses when searching for something. If you know it starts with fish and cant remember the last bit you can use a wildcard. eg. fish*
