2005-02-22 04:29:00 | It should be relatively generic... | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2005-02-22 04:49:00 | yeah i thought it would work on any distro of linux on the dse site it only has mention of a linux driver, nothing about which distro | Prescott (11) | |
2005-02-22 05:09:00 | Yeah well have you done cat INSTALL cat README Can you tell us what they say It will be mainly the install file though

2005-02-22 05:53:00 | I just downloaded that driver and took a look inside. The readme.txt has all the instructions you need. Check to make sure you have installed Yoper's running kernel source headers first as it will required. You need to be root in a konsole window (bash shell) to do all this. From the readme.txt --------------------------------------------------- 3. INSTALLATION Prerequisites: 1. root access 2. bash shell to run install scripts 3. an Intel536ep modem 4. KERNEL SOURCE HEADERS FOR THE KERNEL YOU ARE RUNNING. (found on your distribution's CD) 6 steps to install 1. login as ROOT 2. extract the archive into a directory with "tar -zxvf <archivename>.tgz" 3. cd into the directory it created. 4. Type: make clean 5. Type: make 536 6. Type: make install This will create a /dev/modem device file. This file is used as an interface to modem by all applications: minicom, kpppd, efax, etc. Please configure the applications to use /dev/modem if neccessary. ---------------------------------------------------

2005-02-22 09:46:00 | Hi folks! I will follow this thread with interest, as I have exactly the same modem and have several so called Linux experts try to make it work with Mandrake 10, but to no avail. It is sold by DSE as being Linux compatible, and have also tried it with Yoper, but it seems it is a great white elephant. Cheers guys, hope someone can give us the solution.
